Nationally accredited, the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) prepares students in advanced theory and practice in a specialized clinical area of nursing. Graduate students in APU's MSN programs are equipped to assume functional, advanced practice roles as clinical nurse specialists, family nurse practitioners, adult-gerontology nurse practitioners, pediatric nurse practitioners, psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners, or school nurses, and may elect a secondary specialty in administration or education. The combination of theory, research, and professional development also readies graduates for doctoral study in nursing.
Graduates are eligible to apply for state advanced practice certification or credential in their specialties. They may also write national certification examinations where these are offered through specialty boards.
MSN Program Specialties
Students pursuing a MSN programs also complete coursework for a specialized clinical area of nursing:
- MSN in Healthcare Administration and Leadership
- MSN in Nursing Education
- MSN with CNS Specialties
- MSN with NP Specialties
- MSN with School Nurse Services Credential (SNSC)
- MSN with SNSC and FNP Specialty
- MSN with SNSC and PNP Specialty
Students who have earned a bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field may enroll in our entry-level master’s program. Nurses who already have an MSN from other institution may enroll in a post-master’s certificate program.
