The Master of Arts in Studio Art (MA) program focuses on intensive personal exploration and development of studio practice. This is accompanied by developing skills in the analysis and critique of that practice, as well as gaining underpinnings in art theory and history. The studio environment provides a place where students from all art disciplines can share ideas about art making. Through ongoing critiques, graduate level instruction, mentorship with accomplished faculty and exhibition opportunities in the Department’s galleries, students develop a professional body of work. The MA degree requires a completion of a minimum of 30 semester units and provides both a foundation for further study - such as the terminal M.F.A. degree - and preparation for a life in the visual arts.
