Candidates who have successfully completed the Certificate in Nursing and Advanced Certificate in Nursing are admitted to the Diploma Programme. Exemptions are only granted after a reviewal process.
- G.C.E. O/L with passes in Mathematics, Science & English
- Student should be medically fit for working in a hospital
- Over 18 years of age
- Completion of Certificate in Nursing (AUC)
- Completion of Advanced Certificate in Nursing (AUC)
The overall objective of the programme is to prepare prospective nursing professionals. They will have the ability to apply a comprehensive range of knowledge, skills and attitudes in caring for patients and families across the age span in a variety of settings within the role of nurses.
At the completion of the programme nurse will be able to:
- Appreciate and enhance their knowledge and skills to develop their level of competency and utilize it to reflect the image of the nurse and the image of the organization.
- Analyze and identify the problems and caring needs of individuals and families and respond sensitively.
- Ensure safety of patients when planning and implementing nursing interventions in managing disease conditions and itscomplications.
- Establish professional relationships within the working environment with all and at times.
- Demonstrate commitment to best practice with positive attitudes.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in empowering patients in restoration and promotion of health and rehabilitation.
- Practice effective communication with patients, families, other healthcare professionals and co-workers.
- Demonstrate leadership in management of unit, caring of patients and controlling resources cost effectively.
- Build effective interpersonal relationships with the management and other healthcare professionals.
- Improve personal efficiency utilizing more and more opportunities available in the clinical field.
- Respect the ethical code of nursing and protect patients’ rights and dignity of patients, colleagues, other healthcareprofessionals and co-workers.
The medium of instruction will be in English language. The examinations will be conducted in English, however if any clarifications need to be made will be in Sinhala medium.
