The BEng (Hons) Aircraft Engineering course is an exciting degree that will equip you with an in-depth engineering knowledge across a broad range of modern aeronautical technologies.

If you have decided on an exhilarating career as an aircraft engineer, this course will provide the knowledge and skills you need to analyse complex aircraft engineering situations and solve aeronautical engineering problems.  The degree offers two pathways which can lead to a career in air transport operations or aircraft design.

Successful completion of the BEng degree meets the educational requirements of an Incorporated Engineer.

Entry requirements

Entry to year 1:

  • 3 Scottish Highers at grade BBC or above, B grade or above required in Mathematics Or
  • 2 A levels at grade C or above, including Mathematics Plus
  • Physics at Standard grade credit level, National 5 or GCSE at grade B, or equivalent and
  • English at Standard grade credit level, National 5 or GCSE at grade C, or equivalent
  • Applicants with other relevant qualifications will be considered on an individual basis 
  • Students successfully achieving Grade A in the graded unit and greater than 70% in Maths and Physics on the UHI HNC Aircraft Engineering may progress to year two of the degree.
  • Advanced entry to year 2 may be possible for applicants with the following:
  • 3 Scottish Advanced Highers at BBC or above Or
  • 3 A levels at BBC or above
  • Mathematics and Physics are required at B grade Plus
  • English at Standard grade credit level, National 5 or GCSE at grade C, or equivalent
  • Successful completion of an HNC in Aircraft Engineering or related discipline at an appropriate level will be considered upon application
  • You will also undertake a period of preparatory tuition which may take the form of a pre-course summer school, or run alongside your year 2 studies.
