The Physics of the Earth and Universe Major is the first of its kind in Egypt and the region as a whole and was designed to provide the rigorous background in mathematics and physical sciences required for a career in theoretical, computational, or experimental scientific research and/or education. Students will be introduced to the leading scientific research in particle physics and cosmology; astrophysics; and earth and space sciences, including; geology, meteorology, planetary systems, and artificial satellites. These fundamental sciences are essential for understanding our world.
During the first two years, students take foundation courses in basic science and mathematics, with an emphasis on physics. They are also exposed to the three concentration options available for advanced study: Earth and atmospheric sciences, astrophysics, and high energy physics. During the final two years, students pursue advanced studies within their chosen area of concentration, together with advanced training in physics. Each concentration includes specialized instruction from Zewail City research center experts in theoretical physics and environmental and space sciences. The advanced mathematical and computational skills of physics of the Earth and universe graduates can be readily transferred to many applications in business and industry, as well as academic and government research.
