Materials Science

The Materials Science Major provides students with an in-depth understanding of materials. Students will study the relationship between the structure of materials at atomic or molecular scales and their macroscopic properties. They will also learn the most recent approaches used in the development of new materials and the various parameters that control their internal structures. In addition, students will learn the skills needed to identify, characterize, design, manipulate and innovatively use materials.

Materials Science is an interdisciplinary program that covers materials from various aspects. After building a solid foundation in chemistry, physics and mathematics during the first two years of study, the students begin to explore advanced techniques for material synthesis and characterization. During the fourth year, students can focus on studying either smart materials, plasmonics, photonics or polymer science.

All of these concentrations are strongly supported with advanced research facilities. Students will gain hands-on experience in the development and characterization of novel materials for applications that have potential social, environmental and economic benefits.
