Religion is an important part of many people's identity. In Norway, Christianity has had a prominent position. By studying Christianity, Religion and Worldviews, one can specialise in a number of important issues dealing with people's lives in the world.
Social sciences explores how people are influenced by different societies and how societies change. By studying social sciences, one acquires knowledge of how society is structured and how it changes.
Both religion and society influence one another; and by studying both, one gains enhanced insight into both areas. Through knowledge of religion and culture, we can understand how a society works and what values it builds upon. At the same time, religion is also shaped by the surrounding society and culture. The social sciences offer religious perspectives that deepen the understanding of religiosity, traditions and values.
This programme provides a basis for vocations within schools, churches and society at large. If one wants to concentrate more on the religion component or the social science component, one can choose to study Christianity/RLE or Social Science. One can also combine these two study programmes in Religion and Society. It is possible to transfer previous studies from other institutions into the bachelor's degree programme at MF.
