Doctorate of Advanced study
The Doctorate of Advanced study is an individually tailored, research-based postgraduate degree. This is a unique award that someone can pursue in any discipline. It usually involves considerable research effort, either through a thesis or supervised research projects and a thesis. It is considered equivalent to the standard Doctorate degree, based on the UK Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) as well as the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) – Level 8.
In order to receive the Doctorate of Advanced study degree, one must fulfil the entry requirements – general education, a Bachelor degree (UK RQF / EQF Level 6) and a Master Degree (UK RQF / EQF Level 7) or a Bachelor Degree (UK RQF Level 6) plus substantial professional or research experience of at least 5 years of any recognised academic institution worldwide. Our institution adds two additional requirements: a demanding program of research study proposed by the student and approved by our Institution and independent research, culminating in the production of a postgraduate thesis and possibly, additional supervised research projects of smaller extend. Publication(s) of the thesis research results in recognised (indexed) academic journals will be taken into consideration, especially if they are related to the discipline and the subjects of the research projects and/or the thesis.
During the Doctorate program, the student determines the area of study and programme of work with a supervisor and will be provided with appropriate research training to enable him/her to complete the programme of research. This will culminate in the preparation of a thesis which is submitted for assessment by internal and external examiners, together with an oral examination.
