Emergency Medical Sciences

The Emergency Medical Sciences (EMS) program provides students with the knowledge and skills to become certified as an Emergency Medical Technician in the State of California.  Students can use this program as a stepping-stone to other careers including: paramedic, nursing and other allied health fields.

Topics covered are patient assessment, oxygen administration, recognition and treatment of various medical and trauma emergencies, and other aspects that relate to pre-hospital care.  The students participate in non-paid internships, where they will spend 36 hours by arrangement in ambulance and/or an emergency room to experience the field of EMS.  This course meets the State of California regulations of EMT training.  A grade of “C” or better is required in order to be eligible for certification.
