BA (Hons)

Business Enterprise / Human Resource Management

This course allows you to study human resource and people management and combine this with an understanding of the wider business environment, with a focus on issues relating to Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Business Enterprise

Business enterprise covers the general principles underlying all business ventures (marketing, strategy, business environment and business planning), focusing on small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and the entrepreneur. This course will appeal if you are interested in setting up your own business or working in the SME sector. There is a range of option units to choose from in the final year. Major and named route (where you focus solely on your major subject in your final year) students also undertake a business enterprise project in the final year, where you work in teams to set up a live business and compete in a Young Enterprise competition.

Human Resource Management

People are central to any business, which is why it is so important that they are managed carefully and responsibly. Human Resource Management (HRM) is a vital function of a business because motivated, happy employees result in a productive workforce, which in turn means businesses can grow and develop with their people. From debates around fair and transparent rewards for top management, the implementation of flexible working practices like zero hours contracts, to the recruitment and retention of talent within an organisation, there are many challenges for the HR Manager. Studying Human Resource Management will equip you with the necessary skills to effectively manage and develop people within organisations. Successful HR professionals have excellent communications skills. They are able to show empathy and use their problem solving skills to analyse situations and give honest, fair advice in order to overcome employment issues.
