Masters of Arts in Education
There are six emphases to the Masters of Arts in Education. Below you will find information on each of the options.
Curriculum and Instruction (General Option)
Offers advanced preparation for teachers in leadership, classroom teaching, staff development, alternative education, program development and teaching in a diverse society. The program is designed for practicing educators to hone their skills and increase their knowledge in a specific area of the curriculum or pedagogical practice. The array of electives allows candidates to customize a program plan to fit both current needs and future plans as an effective educator.
Educational Leadership
The Administrative Leadership Program incorporates both practical and theoretical challenges in the administration of the public schools. The program fosters and nurtures leadership while providing candidates and interns with an understanding of the day-day world of decision making that will face them as they enter the field of school administration. Coursework includes both theory and the practical application of theory in your school setting. The program is geared towards working professionals with convenient course locations across Southern California.
Educational Multimedia
Educational Multimedia program focuses on the educational, creative, and technical aspects of computer technology to design, create, and present educational and training content for schools and corporate sector. The concentration of this production-based program is on the creative integration of graphics, animation, video, audio, text, and interactivity for educational and training settings based on the sound principles of instructional design. This is the only MA degree in the College of Education & Integrative Studies that does not require teaching credential. Students develop theoretical foundations in creating Multimedia materials, enhance their technical skills and become involved in creating a variety of innovative interactive multimedia-based learning environments.
Special Education
The Master of Arts Degree (with emphasis in Special Education) offers advanced preparation in the areas of mild/moderate and moderate/severe disabilities. Required and elective special education courses are closely related to course requirements in the Preliminary Credential (and the former Level I/Level II Credentials).
