Dental Assisting Program Overview
Dental Assistant careers across the country continue to grow. Flexible schedules and working in a variety of great office settings are a few obvious reasons. The biggest benefit just might be the short 9 month training program needed to get working.
Most Dental assistants work in private dental offices. Some are employed by specialty practices like orthodontists, oral surgeons, or pediatrics. There are also a variety of job opportunities in educational services, dental laboratories, and state and local government agencies.
Depending on the office size and specialty a dental assistant could be handling both administrative and clinical duties. Some dental assistants manage front office work like greeting patients, scheduling appointments, completing dental records and billing. Additional functions may focus more on the hands-on aspect of dental care like preparing patients for procedures, setting up instruments and preparing dental materials. Other chair-side responsibilities could include; taking x-rays and dental impressions, assisting the dentist during dental procedures, and explaining treatment procedures.
