Philology - English Studies
On the 13th of June 2002 WSSP obtained the permission to launch the new specialization at Bachelor’s Studies: the English Philology. The University of Vincent Pol in Lublin is, besides UMCS and KUL universities, the only higher school in our region to launch this specialization.
The studies in the specialization English Philology are conducted at the bachelor ‘s degree. They last 3 years (6 terms). The study curriculum includes 2005 hours of classes at the intramural (full-time) studies (plus 4 weeks of internship). At the extramural (part-time studies) the classes will be realized in 100% (subjects within the Ministry’s Standard) or in 60% (other subjects) of the full-time study schedule. For the students who want to specialize in teaching the university has prepared the parallel to philology studies Qualification Studies in Pedagogy with the substantial number of pedagogical-methodological classes (510 hours).
Students of English Philology receive education in arts, specializing in the philology. They study the structure and history of the English language and become competent and fluent English speakers. They are educated in history, literature and culture of the English-speaking countries as well as in the theory of literature and linguistics. Due to interships in both the primary and secondary schools they get fully prepared to the profession of an English teacher at all the levels of education. The graduate will find employment in the primary and high schools as well as in the institutions offering English courses. At the 3rd year of study a specialization is planned to be introduced preparing for employment outside the education sector. The graduates will be able to continue their studies towards the master’s degree on the English Philology Master’s Studies. The curriculum of the studies includes ten weeks of internship during which the students conduct English classes at different age levels. The candidates will have an interview aiming at an estimation of their predispositions for the studying of English Philology. The interview is not obligatory for those candidates who have passed the Matura Exam in English with a positive result (according to the New Matura standards) or hold the First Certificate, Cambridge Advanced or Proticiency in English diploma.
