A career in caregiving is the perfect way to make a difference in your community and the lives of those who need specialized aide. The Community Health Care Worker program at Vancouver Career College provides training and hands-on experience for work in settings like schools, community centres and care facilities. This 43-week intensive program prepares students for care positions in residencies, special needs facilities and more. Vancouver Career College’s highly trained instructors teach the skills needed to work with developmental disorders, special needs patients, behavioural disabilities, mental health disorders and geriatric patients. In addition, students learn how to plan recreational activities and programs, and run rehabilitation programs using art and music therapy. During the program, students gain experience in their field through three practica. Students spend three weeks in a non-clinical care facility, such as a school or community centre; three weeks in an intermediate care facility; and four weeks in an extended care facility. Graduates receive the following certifications: Community Health Care Worker Diploma; Long Term Geriatric Care Aid Certificate; Resident Care Attendant Diploma; Alzheimer’s Certificate; Mental Health Community Care Certificate; Basics of Medications Certificate; Standard First Aid Certificate; CPR “C” Certificate; Food Safe Level 1 Certificate and a WHMIS Certificate. At the end of this program, you will be fully prepared to enter the personally and professionally rewarding field of Community Health Care.
