BA (Hons) Stadium & Events Management

Course Content

Stadia represents major capital investment for most professional sports organisations and the increased utilisation of stadia is a major financial opportunity. Stadia are now seen as not just sports venues but as a venue for many activities outside of the sporting arena. Most stadia are mainly used for circa 35 days per year for their core sporting activity. The challenge for your generation is to maximise stadium utilisation for the remaining 330 days a year.

Wembley Stadium for example has hosted almost 200 events since 2007 through combining domestic and international matches with concerts featuring stars such as Robbie Williams and Bruce Springsteen, as well as hosting motorsports, NFL and rugby events. In this way an organisation’s assets are maximised to ensure sufficient financial returns to repay the capital outlays.

Students will gain an understanding of developing a compelling visitor experience; delivering a safe environment; an understanding of the various stakeholders in presenting an event; operational planning and the financial underpinnings needed to ensure income streams from a number of sources.

Within the UCFB Complementary Curriculum, you will be invited to design, manage and implement your own stadium events.

Year 1

The first year will cover the fundamentals of the sports business by exploring different sporting industries with a particular focus on the football and rugby industry. You will have an introduction to events and stadium management, as well as gain an understanding of venue and operations logistics to deliver credible events, hospitality operations and management, building leadership and management capabilities within the hospitality industry and understanding consumer behaviour associated with hosting major events.

Year 2

In your second year, you will gain an insight in to the managerial and business facets of delivering a safe and customer focussed event experience. This includes exploring the hospitality and facilities operation and its impact upon delivering a successful and profitable event, whilst understanding the implications of the legalities and regulations, such as liaising with the police on a match day to building relationships with stakeholders such as local authority and transport officials when hosting a community event.

Year 3

You will undertake a related research project on a topic of your choice and engage with world leading practitioners who have a track record in building some of the world’s finest and iconic stadia.
