The workforce within sports businesses, clubs and organisations is changing and the line drawn between coaching, management and business within the same organisation has agglomerated.
Course Content
No longer can people in a sports club or business, regardless of their role, exist in isolation and ignore other parts of the business operations. This degree provides a holistic understanding of the practical field based management roles as well as the more traditional business facets of sport.
The practical application of your knowledge will be fulfilled by completing additional coaching badges via the use of the first team coaching and training facilities at Burnley Football Club as well as within the UCFB professional partner network which includes professional football clubs, rugby clubs, cricket clubs and ice hockey to name a few.
Year 1
During your first year you will focus on the broad concepts involved in the sports business and surrounding industries. You will be introduced to the fundamentals of coaching, such as health and safety and risk assessments and the ‘coach’s toolkit’, sports development and exploring how sport is structured in the UK in a variety of settings and gain an understanding of the unique consumer behaviour within the sports industry.
Year 2
The second year develops your understanding of sports as a business and combines the opportunity to improve your coaching skills, long term athlete development and coaching pathways, including disability sport. You will also explore different techniques for analysing performance including notational analysis and the use of technology to improve performance. As many coaches are self-employed, one of the projects you will do will be focussed on entrepreneurship and business planning, incorporating an understanding of the financial implications of a sports business such as profit and loss financial projections.
Year 3
p>In the final year, you will cover high performance coaching, which examines elite sports performance and gain an insight into leadership and management skills as well as developing an understanding of physical education and pedagogical issues.
You will also research a dissertation project on a topic of your choice. |
