A Masters in African Studies at the ISCTE, Higher Institute of Labour and Enterprise provides you with a solid foundation for graduate studies. You will focus on the study of people of African descent in Africa, the Caribbean, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, looking at literature, arts and culture,including diaspora studies, ethnic studies, the role of public health, political science, justice, global studies, education, business and community development.
masters students: An MSc in African Studies is excellent preparation for future doctoral research on Africa. An advanced degree course provides a solid foundation for individuals who wish to expand their knowledge of African Studies before working for NGOs, in public service, international organizations, and the media, or in other professional capacities. It will cover key questions and debates in the study of issues such as the African state, conflict and violence, diaspora and development. Your dissertation will include discussion of the methodology, historiography, or theory relevant to the research topic, and will usually be based on original research conducted in Africa.
