with a PhD in Mathematics at the University of São Paulo you will typically have received a solid grounding in mathematical modelling, scientific computing and probability and statistics, with a concentration on the classical aspects of the subject rooted in mathematical modelling and applications in the sciences. You will also have typically looked atapplied mathematics - probability and statistics with a concentration on mathematics and the underlying processes that involve randomness and the mathematical tools used in the analysis of data.
phd students: You will typically have concentrated on one of the following:
  • Applied mathematics: in-depth concentration on the tools as applied to the life and social sciences, i.e., on dynamical systems, simulation and mathematical analysis and computational and numerical methods
  • Life sciences: your focus will have been on understanding the tools for representing the structure and operation of complex biological and ecological processes
  • Social sciences: your focus will have been on understanding the tools for representing the structure and operation of complex social systems and processes
