With a PhD in Education at University of Montana you will, in your first year, typically have focused on the investigation of learning in relation to students and then children as learners, involving ‘hands-on’ experience while exploring learning in the contexts of work, community, family and school. Later you will have focused on the investigation of teaching and curriculum in relation to children’s learning, curriculum, pedagogy and research together with practical application in schools.
phd students: You will typically have an academic background in education and/or be an education professional working in the fields of education policy, curriculum and assessment/examinations across different sectors in education (pre-school, primary, post-primary, adult and further education) in a life-long learning context. Your Doctorate program will typically involve taught modules in years 1, 2 and 3 as well as supervised research on the thesis for the duration of the degree. Teaching will typically involve seminar-based discussion, writing and reading in three main areas

  • policy and pedagogical policy, leadership and professional practice both nationally and internationally
