You will explore American literature and history and learn the core skills required to take an interdisciplinary perspective on the whole range of the American experience, including sociology, the arts and many other areas. There will be a strong emphasis on a multicultural perspective. The course is ideally suited for further graduate study.
phd students: You will have taken an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the United States as a multiethnic, multiracial, and multicultural society, and you will have opted for a broad array of possibilities in, for example, ethnic studies, feminist studies, environmental cultural studies of race, class, gender, sexuality and empire, popular culture, social movements and labour history.
