Gerontology is the study of the process of human aging in all its aspects, such as the physical, psychological, and social. Because of the tremendous growth in the older adult population in many industrialised countries, there are a wide range of employment opportunities for students graduating with a degree in Gerontology.
With a PhD in Gerontology at Swansea University you will typically have received a solid grounding beginning with an introduction to gerontology. Further study will have introduced you to physical changes and aging, the socio-cultural aspects of aging, research methods in gerontology and the psychology of aging.
phd students: You will have engaged in advanced research in such areas as Aging and Health, the Role of Lifestyle Factors in Cognitive Aging and and Alzheimer’s Disease and Public Policy and Long-Term Care (see also Master’s).
